about
Househouse is a design practice led by OAA-licensed architect Tara Castator, who holds a Bachelor of Architectural Science from Toronto Metropolitan University and a Master of Architecture from the University of Toronto.
Based between Toronto and New York City, Househouse approaches architecture as a spatial discipline which extends beyond buildings into interiors, atmospheres, and crafted experiences across both physical and digital space. Our work is rooted in rigorous architectural thinking, with a strong focus on material intelligence, proportion and contrast, and how spaces are felt as much as how they are seen.
Things we love right now:
– 1970s references and restraint
– Mixing wood species and grain directions
– Velvet
– Checkered geometries and graphic floors
– Sky blue
– Chrome
– Moody & intimate bathrooms
– Custom tiles, trims, and edge conditions
– Glass block as structure and light filter
– Layered metals
– Handcrafted details and bespoke fabrication
Each project is treated as a carefully composed environment and is designed to age well, feel considered, and reward attention over time.
